Graph Properties and Settings

Each graph that is created or imported appears on a separate line in the top section of the Data Properties and Settings panel. You can control the visibility of a graph within the 3D view of a scene with the icons available in the top section of the panel, as well as access additional settings in the lower section to select edge and vertex measurements, apply thresholds, and compute histograms. Additional options for examining graphs are available in the Measurement Inspector (see Evaluating Graphs with the Measurement Inspector). You can compute measurements, as well as add other values to graphs, in the Compute Measurements dialog (see Computing Measurements for Graphs).

All graphs that are available for viewing and evaluation are listed in the top section of the Data Properties and Settings panel.

  • Click the Graphs icon at the top of the panel to see the available graphs (see Filters for information about filtering the listed items).
  • Click the Eye icon on the left side of the listed item to show or hide the graph in the current 3D view. Click the 3D icon on the right side of the listed item to show or hide the graph in the 3D view of the current scene (see Visibility and Color/LUT Controls for more information about changing visibility).
  • Select a graph to view basic information about the graph and access settings to modify its appearance in 3D views.
  • Right-click a graph to access the Measurement Inspector, import and map scalar values, add vertex measurements, plot graph tortuosity, as well as export graphs and execute macros (see Graph Pop-Up Menu).

The information available for a selected graph includes the number of vertices, edges, and size along each axis.

Item Description
Name Indicates the name of the selected graph.
Number of vertices Indicates the total number of vertices within the selected graph.
Number of edges Indicates the total number of edges within the selected graph.
Edges total length If computed, indicates the total length of the edges within the selected graph.

Note Click the Refresh button to compute the total length of all edges.
X size Indicates the size of the graph along the X-axis.
Y size Indicates the size of the graph along the Y-axis.
Z size Indicates the size of the graph along the Z-axis.

The options in the Graph settings box let you select edge and vertex measurements, apply thresholds, and compute histograms. You can also adjust properties, such as anti-aliasing and lighting effects, in the Scene's Views Properties panel (see 3D Scene's View Properties).

The following settings are available for graphs.

Item Description
Enable level of detail Increases interactivity speed by removing the rendering of vertices during manipulations. In this case, edges will still be shown during manipulations.
Edge radius measurement Lets you choose the scalar values, if available, that you want to apply to the edges of the selected graph.
Edge radius Provides options to adjust the radius of the edges as follows:
  • Drag the Edge radius slider to manually adjust the radius of the edges.
  • Check Use scalar real scale as edge radius option to apply the real scalar values to the edges of the graph. In this case, the selected edge radius measurement should be appropriate for viewing in real scale.
Range Indicates the minimum and maximum values of the selected edge radius measurement.
Edge LUT measurement Lets you choose the scalar values, if available, that you want to map to the LUT applied to the edges of the selected graph.
Edge LUT Lets you to select a Look-Up Table (LUT) function, which determines how colors are mapped to the selected measurement. LUTs can be edited interactively to optimize visualizations.
  • To apply a LUT, select the required LUT in the drop-down menu.
  • Click the Edit button to edit the applied LUT in the LUT Editor (see Using the LUT Editor).
Range Indicates the minimum and maximum values of the selected edge LUT measurement.
Vertex radius measurement Lets you choose the scalar values, if available, that you want to apply to the vertices of the selected graph.
Vertex radius Provides options to adjust the radius of the vertices as follows:
  • Drag the Vertex radius slider to manually adjust the radius of the vertices.
  • Check Use scalar real scale as vertex radius option to apply the real scalar values to the vertices of the graph. In this case, the selected vertex radius measurement should be appropriate for viewing in real scale.
Range Indicates the minimum and maximum values of the selected vertex radius measurement.
Vertex LUT measurement Lets you choose the scalar values, if available, that you want to map to the LUT applied to the vertices of the selected graph.
Vertex LUT Lets you to select a Look-Up Table (LUT) function, which determines how colors are mapped to the selected measurement. LUTs can be edited interactively to optimize visualizations.
  • To apply a LUT, select the required LUT in the drop-down menu.
  • Click the Edit button to edit the applied LUT in the LUT Editor (see Using the LUT Editor).
Range Indicates the minimum and maximum values of the selected vertex LUT measurement.
Lets you plot selected scalar values on a histogram for analysis (see Analyzing Histograms and Creating Classes ).
Lets you export the scalar values contained in the selected graph to a comma separated-values (*.csv extension) file (see Exporting Scalar Values from Graphs).
Lets you import scalar values from a comma separated-values (*.csv extension) file (see Importing Scalar Values from CSV Files).

Lets you export a graph to a region of interest.

The Clip tool allows you to clip interactively along orthogonal and oblique planes in 3D views of the selected graph with a box shape, as shown below (see Adding and Editing Shapes).

When a graph is clipped, edges and vertices are either 'in' or 'out'. Partial edges and vertices are not rendered.

Do the following to clip a graph:

  • Click the Clip tool on the Clip panel that appears on the Data Properties and Setting panel.
  • Drag a face of the box to move a plane up and down or in and out. Each plane of the 6 sides of the parallelogram can be moved independently.
  • Drag any of the control points to rotate a side of the parallelogram.
  • Translate the box by dragging from the central control point.
You can custom the look of the box shape with the settings in the Clip box, shown below (see Clip Box Settings). The available 3D live effects for vector fields include 'clip' and 'opacity' (see Applying Visual Effects to Clips and Shapes).
